NEPALESE PASHMINA
Mode of Manufacturing:
1. Pashmina Collection
The mountain people collect pashmina from chyangra (capra hircus) by combing the soft fur from neck and underbelly every spring when the mountain goat naturally sheds the winter coat. The chyangra are not harmed in this process.
2. Sorting/Dehairing
The soft and fine pashmina wool fibers are separated from the thick and coarse hairs of chyangra. The dead over grown and discolored fibers are also separated which is called dehairing.
3. Spinning
After sorting, the collected wool is manually agitated& stretched to remove dirt, scales and undesired particles. After drying the wool is spun to very fine yarn over the spinning wheels (charkhha). Hand spinning is an extremely painstaking task. It requires immense patience, and dedication, which is amazing process to watch. The yarn is spun in different thickness as desired, which is measured in counts.
4. Twisting
The spun yarns are the twisted. Either single yarn is twisted to make single-ply yarn or multi yarns are twisted to get desired ply as per the requirement.
